Xbox Game Pass is Microsoft’s gaming subscription service that gives players access to a large library of games across Xbox consoles and PC. Depending on the plan you choose, you can get Day One releases, online multiplayer, EA Play, Ubisoft+ Classics and cloud gaming where available.
The Game Pass library is regularly updated, with new games added over time and some titles eventually leaving the service. Different plans offer different libraries and benefits, so the right choice depends on how and where you play.
In this guide, we’ll compare the main Xbox Game Pass plans, explain their differences and look at the features included with each option. This should make it easier to choose the plan that fits your gaming habits without paying for features you do not need.
Why Choose Xbox Game Pass?
Xbox Game Pass gives you more than just access to a large game library. Depending on the plan you choose, you can play new releases from day one, play online with friends, access EA Play and Ubisoft+ Classics, and get additional member benefits.
Some of the main benefits include:
- Hundreds of high quality games
- New games added regularly
- Day One releases with selected plans
- Online multiplayer
- Member discounts
- EA Play with selected plans
- Ubisoft+ Classics with Ultimate
- Xbox Cloud Gaming where available
The exact benefits depend on the plan you choose. Xbox Cloud Gaming availability and features can also vary by region and plan.
Compare Xbox Game Pass Plans
There are four main Game Pass plans to choose from: PC Game Pass, Game Pass Essential, Game Pass Premium and Game Pass Ultimate.
Each plan is aimed at a slightly different type of player, so the best option depends on whether you mainly play on PC, Xbox, online with friends or want access to as many games and benefits as possible.
PC Game Pass
PC Game Pass is the best choice for players who mainly play on Windows PC. It gives you access to 300+ PC games, Day One releases and EA Play, with the library regularly updated.
PC Game Pass includes:
- 300+ PC games
- Day One releases
- EA Play
- Regularly updated library
If you mainly play on PC and want one subscription with a large selection of games and new releases from day one, PC Game Pass is a great choice.
You can also check the PC Game Pass games catalogue to see which games are currently available.

Game Pass Essential includes:
- 50+ games
- Online multiplayer
- Member discounts
- In-game benefits
It does not include Day One releases, EA Play or Ubisoft+ Classics.
If you mainly need online multiplayer and want a smaller game library without paying for features you may not use, Game Pass Essential is a lower-cost option.
Before choosing the plan, you can check the Xbox Game Pass Essential games catalogue to see what is currently included.
GAME PASS PREMIUM
Game Pass Premium is a good middle-ground option if you want a larger game library and more content without going all the way to Ultimate.
Game Pass Premium includes:
- 200+ console games
- Online multiplayer
- Selected new Xbox releases within one year of launch
- Regularly updated library
Premium does not include EA Play or Ubisoft+ Classics.
New Xbox-published games become available in Premium within one year of launch, with some exclusions. This makes Premium a practical option if you do not need to play every new release on day one.
If you want more games and content but do not need all the additional Ultimate benefits, Game Pass Premium can be a good balance between price and features.
You can see the current selection in the Xbox Game Pass Premium games catalogue.
GAME PASS ULTIMATE
Game Pass Ultimate is the most complete Game Pass option, with the largest library and the widest range of benefits in one subscription.
Game Pass Ultimate includes:
- 500+ games
- Day One releases
- Online multiplayer
- EA Play
- Ubisoft+ Classics
- Xbox Cloud Gaming where available
- In-game benefits and rewards

If you want one subscription with the largest selection of games and the most Game Pass benefits, Ultimate is the best choice.

Which Game Pass Plan Is Right for You?
The difference between Game Pass plans is not only the number of games included. The most important thing is where you play, what games you want to play and which features you will actually use.
If you mainly play on PC, PC Game Pass is the most logical choice. If you play on Xbox and mainly need online multiplayer with a smaller game library, Essential may be enough.
If you want a larger library and more content, Premium offers a good middle ground. If you want Day One releases, EA Play, Ubisoft+ Classics and the widest selection of games, Ultimate is the most complete option.
The best plan is ultimately the one that gives you the features you actually need.

WHAT ARE DAY ONE GAMES?
Day One games are new releases that become available on Game Pass on the same day they officially launch.
This means you can start playing an eligible new title immediately without having to buy it separately, as long as your Game Pass plan includes Day One access.
This is especially useful if you like playing the latest releases as soon as they come out, want to play together with friends from day one or simply do not want to pay the full price for every new game.
Day One games are included with PC Game Pass and Game Pass Ultimate. Game Pass Premium does not include Day One access, although new Xbox-published games become available in Premium within one year of launch, with some exclusions.
Game Pass Essential does not include Day One releases.
Microsoft regularly announces upcoming Day One titles, making Game Pass particularly useful for players who want to follow new releases without buying every game separately.
How Often Does the Game Pass Library Change?
The Game Pass library is regularly updated. Microsoft adds new games throughout the month, while some titles eventually leave the service to make room for new additions.
This means the exact selection can change depending on when you check the catalogue.
If you want to see which games are currently available, you can browse the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate games, Premium games, Essential games or PC Game Pass games catalogues.
If you are looking for a specific game, it is always a good idea to check the current catalogue before buying a subscription.
Xbox Cloud Gaming
Xbox Cloud Gaming allows supported games to be played through the cloud without installing them directly on your device.
Cloud Gaming availability depends on your region, plan, device and supported games, so the experience can differ between countries.
If cloud gaming is important to you, make sure to check whether the service is officially available in your region before choosing a plan.
